about
This is a mantra of surrender to Divine. “Gu” means darkness, “ru” means light. Guru refers to the forces of awakening consciousness, the inner or external teacher that takes us from darkness to light.
This mantra was received by Swami Kripalvanandji, also known as Bapuji, at a time when he was in an ecstatic state from intense spiritual practice and accidentally walked into the Narmada River in India. As he struggled for his life in the raging waters, he suddenly heard the voice of his Guru telling him to “Stop the struggling. Surrender.” This mantra spontaneously emerged and Swami Kripalu was able to float safely to the shore through the grace of his Guru and Lord Shiva.
